Remembering Ron Fontaine: A Respected Leader, Mentor and Friend
The IAM is mourning the loss of a respected leader, mentor and friend.
Retired International Representative Ron Fontaine passed away on August 18, 2026. Ron was a proud 55+ year member of the IAM and served as a full-time union representative for more than 38 years.
An activist at every level of our union, Ron mentored dozens of IAM members throughout his distinguished career. His unwavering passion for representing working people was evident in everything he did. Whether fighting for members at the bargaining table or bringing energy and determination to organizing campaigns, Ron was a strong and influential leader.
Ron touched the lives of so many, and our union is stronger today because of his dedication to improving the lives of working people. He was an exceptional leader, mentor, organizer and human being. He will be deeply missed.
We extend our deepest condolences to Louise, the Fontaine family, and everyone who knew and loved Ron. Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.
A memorial service will be held Friday, September 18, 2026, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Riverside Grand Ballroom, 1231 Burdette Street, Richmond, BC V6V 2Z2, Canada.
