IAM Union Members at Filamat Ratify New Three-Year Collective Agreement

48 IAM Local 1922 members at Filamat have ratified a new three-year collective agreement that delivers significant improvements to wages, benefits, pensions, workplace protections, and union representation.

Under the new agreement, members will receive hourly wage increases of $1.10 in the first year, $0.85 in the second year, and $1.00 in the third year. Pension contributions will also increase by 10 cents per year, while evening and night shift premiums will rise by 5 cents.
The agreement strengthens members’ benefits by increasing Life Insurance coverage by $5,000 and raising allowances for safety footwear, eyewear and contact lenses, and prescription safety eyewear by $25 each. In addition, bereavement leave language has been expanded to include additional family members, adoption has been added to the protected leaves language, and members will now receive one additional personal day.

The new agreement also includes important improvements to union representation and the grievance procedure. New language was introduced regarding discipline and discharge cases, addressing a key priority identified by members. These changes help strengthen protections in the workplace while promoting a better relationship between members and the employer and ensuring members’ privacy and confidentiality are respected.

This agreement reflects the priorities our members brought to the bargaining table,” said Vivianne Simon, Business Representative at IAM Union District 78. “We were able to secure meaningful improvements not only in wages, but also in pensions, benefits, workplace protections, and work-life balance. I want to thank the bargaining committee and every member for their solidarity and trust throughout this process. Their unity made these gains possible.

The bargaining committee included Chief Steward Biswajit Maraj and Shop Steward Tenzin , whose dedication and commitment helped achieve these important improvements for the membership.

Congratulations to the bargaining committee and all IAM Union members at Filamat on the successful ratification of their new agreement.
