IAM District 78 Awards Inaugural Scholarship to Nia Wilson
IAM District 78 is proud to announce Nia Wilson as the inaugural recipient of the IAM District 78 Scholarship.
Nia was presented with her scholarship cheque by District 78 Directing Business Representative Eric Johnston during a presentation at the IAM District 78 Office on July 24, 2026.
The daughter of IAM member Chris Wilson, who works with the Canadian Labour Congress, Nia comes from a family with a long-standing commitment to the labour movement. Her mother works for the Public Service Alliance of Canada, and both of her parents have been active members of the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists. Growing up in a household dedicated to workers’ rights, equity, and social justice has inspired Nia to carry those same values forward.
Nia plans to use the scholarship to pursue a Master of Social Work, with the long-term goal of earning a law degree. She is passionate about exploring the intersection of social work and law and hopes to build a career that combines both disciplines to advocate for and support those in need.
Her dedication to community service and social justice embodies the spirit of the IAM District 78 Scholarship, which was established to support the educational aspirations of members and their families while encouraging the next generation of leaders committed to making a positive difference.
Congratulations to Nia on this well-deserved achievement, and best wishes as she continues her educational journey.
