Éric Rancourt Appointed QFL Vice-President
Effective August 31, 2026, Éric Rancourt, an IAM International Representative, will also become the new Vice-President of the Quebec Federation of Labour (QFL), representing the IAM. He will succeed David Chartrand, who has held the position for nearly 12 years.
This transition comes as David Chartrand manages a demanding schedule, including his role as IAM General Vice-President for Canada. After more than a decade as a QFL Vice-President, David is passing the torch to Éric to ensure strong representation and a consistent IAM presence within Quebec’s labour movement.
David Chartrand highlighted the importance of the appointment: “Éric has strong relationships with the QFL and several members of its leadership team, in addition to extensive experience within Quebec’s labour movement. His union career, spanning nearly three decades, demonstrates his experience, commitment and deep understanding of the labour movement. He will be a valuable asset to the IAM and is well positioned to ensure a strong presence in the struggles ahead.”
Éric joined IAM Local 712 in 1998 and quickly became involved in union activities. Over the years, he held several positions, including shop steward, Recording Secretary and Vice-President, before being elected District 11 Business Representative in 2016.
With considerable experience in contract negotiations across various sectors, including aerospace and several other industries, Éric has developed a deep understanding of the issues facing Quebec’s members and unions.
As President of the Quebec Machinists Council (QMC), he has also gained extensive experience in political action, mobilization and education, while building strong relationships within Quebec’s labour movement.
His experience, leadership and commitment to members make him a natural choice to represent the IAM at the QFL. In his new role, he will continue to defend the interests of IAM members while strengthening our union’s presence and voice within Quebec’s labour movement.
Congratulations to Éric on this new responsibility! We wish him great success in his new role.
