The National School of Aerotechnics Expands Its Footprint: Excellent News for the Future of Aerospace in Quebec
Montreal, Monday, July 13, 2026 — The IAM union welcomes the announcement by the Government of Quebec regarding the addition of two satellite campuses to the National School of Aerotechnics (École nationale d’aérotechnique) in Longueuil. The two new ÉNA locations will be established in the Aerospace Innovation Zone in Mirabel and in the Dorval–Saint-Laurent area.
“ A strong aerospace industry is one that invests in training the next generation of workers. This announcement confirms that we are moving in the right direction,” said Éric Rancourt, IAM International Representative for Quebec. “Being able to train more workers gives Quebec’s aerospace industry the tools it needs to achieve its ambitions,” he added.
“Beyond recruitment, we must not overlook the importance of retaining and valuing the workers who are already in place through strong working conditions, recognition of their expertise, and a structured transfer of knowledge before retirements,” he concluded.
Overview of workforce demand projections in Quebec’s aerospace sector:
– The Aerospace Workforce Sector Committee (CAMAQ) anticipates approximately 80,000 positions will need to be filled over the next ten years.
– Nearly half of the current workforce is over the age of 45, which could lead to a significant loss of knowledge as workers retire.
