Honouring Glenn Tomchak’s Years of Service
It was his last walk out of the District 181 office as the Directing Business Representative. After 43 years of service. This marks the end of a long career dedicated to IAM members, workers’ rights and the labour movement.
Glenn’s journey with the union began in 1981, when he first joined the IAM as a member of local 1953. Over the years, Glenn took on greater responsibilities like organizer, Local President, employee representative on the Manitoba Labour Board, and Directing Business Representative for District 181, dedicating his career to representing and supporting IAM members.
Throughout his years as a union member and Business Representative, Glenn has been a strong advocate for working people. He understood that being part of a union meant more than just having a voice at the bargaining table, it meant standing together, supporting one another and fighting for fairness and respect on the job.
Glenn worked closely with members and locals, helping workers navigate workplace challenges, protecting their rights and making sure their concerns were heard. His work was rooted in the principles of solidarity, collective action and service to others.
For Glenn, the labour movement was not simply a job. It was a commitment. A commitment to the people he represented to the strength of the union and to the generations of workers who would come after him.
Since joining the IAM in 1981 Glenn has dedicated decades of his life to the union and to working people. His journey is a reflection of the difference one committed union member can make over the course of a career.
Now, as he begins his much deserved retirement, Glenn leaves behind more than an office and a title. He leaves behind years of service, countless members supported and a lasting contribution to the labour movement.
Thank you, Glenn, for your decades of dedication, advocacy and solidarity.
Congratulations on your retirement, Glenn. We wish you all the best in this next chapter.
